A Thrifting We Will Go

  This weekend my library had a HUGE blow-out sale, something that happens like twice a year, and I was SOOOO happy. Hardcover books were $1.00, paperbacks and records 50 cents. I got the Mamas and the Papas and Fleetwood Mac for a dollar total! Super thrilled. A Catcher in the Rye, Tales of Mystery and Imagination (Edgar Allen Poe), Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, and the new book, Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. I also went to my local record store and got The Wall, Revolver, and the Guess Who's greatest hits. I then went thrifting and got this super cute bag that reminds me of Winnie the Pooh, a journal (50 cents!) and a red mini skirt. AND 2001: A Space Odyssey for $4.00! Overall, it was an AMAZING weekend, shopping-wise. OH and I got the Pulp Fiction soundtrack for my dad but sucks for me he already had it. 

So yes this post has nothing to do with anything but yes enjoy my finds :)

Dedicated Follower of Fashion

  This Saturday I visited the Garment District in Cambridge for the second time, and I really must say it is my favorite store! Unfortunately I left having purchased only two items, but it was still quite lovely! Now if you haven't heard me ramble on about The Garment District before, its a gigantic clothing shop that sells used clothing, new clothing, AND vintage clothing. And it's all cheap! It's a complete dream. The only issue is that it's about a half an hour drive from my house and when driving there, I have to take roads with tolls, so it can get quite costly. But overall, it was still a fun experience!
  I went with just my mom, and she and I hardly get to do anything together as just the two of us, so I had a lot of fun. Both items I bought were from the 60's section for $14 total!

This dress is actually an XXL shirt, but I loved it so much, I had to make it mine so much. Only $9.

Ah, look at the pattern of this coat! It's beyond adorable, I absolutely LOVE pastels. Perfect for upcoming Easter!

I'm Not Like Everybody Else.

  When we're younger, we all want to fit in. We all want to have the coolest clothes, the newest games, the best of everything. It's just a natural instinct that comes as being part of the modern human race. As a human, I've always felt like I wanted to fit in, too. But lately, more specifically over the past year, fitting in hasn't been my highest priority. I've started wearing whatever clothes I want, listening to the music I like, and decorating my room according to my likes, not just the likes of whatever is popular.
   Up until this point, not fitting in has been fine. I've been off in my own little world, it seems,
and everything's been fine. But once school started a few months back, I noticed a few things. If you do something different, no matter what it is, you are going to be judged. The second you step out of the so called 'status quo,' you are ashamed that you did because everyone will critique you.
  I started noticing this around my first week of school when I was wearing a thrifted skirt from the 1970's and white ankle boots that didn't exactly reflect modern times, either. I received dirty looks, snares, snickers, and I could even hear some critiquing comments made about my clothing choice. As I was hearing and seeing these things, I realized, why are these people doing it? Should I talk badly about their clothing choices, since that's what they're doing to me?
  All these girls my age are wearing practically the same thing: Uggs, yoga or sweatpants, low-cut tank tops or Abercrombie t-shirts, and they all have their perfect little heads of hear straightened. They cake on face makeup and concealer, drawing thick circles around their eyes with dark, black eyeliner, wearing vibrant eye shadow and about six swoops of mascara. I think this is ridiculous to wear so much eye makeup, but then again, I do add wings to my eyes in an Amy Winehouse-esque. But at least I don't look fake. I try every day to incorporate at least one vintage thing in each outfit.

  I've found that no matter what you do, how 'good' or 'bad' it is, no matter what you look like or no matter how you act, people are going to dislike you. That's a rather sad statement, and unfortunately, it's true. Even the celebrities that teenage girls nowadays idolize get criticized for everything. 

  Why do people care so much what other people think of how they look? How does it benefit others if I'm wearing what they want me to wear? I personally believe every girl wearing the same fashion and looking like a bunch of clones is ridiculous. Sorry for yet another rant!

How to Add Color to Your Winter Wardrobe

  Winter is so.. well, what's the word? Dull. The colors of modern fall and winter fashion are so boring and bland, I can barely keep my eyes open. That's why I've decided to include a few tips and tricks as well as outfit ideas to liven up your winter wardrobe without seeming too over-the-top.

1.) Colored Jeans
A splash of color doesn't come quite as extravagant as colored jeans. You could be wearing black or gray everything else and bright jeans would brighten up the entire outfit.

How to Dress Glam Rock Today

  Glam or glitter rock started in the early 1970's when musicians and performers decided to cover themselves in glitter and wear outrageous clothing. David Bowie most famously popularized this, but other musicians that were popular in the glam rock world include T. Rex (more particularly Marc Bolan), Sweet, Roxy Music, and Lou Reed. These musicians dressed up in layers of fabric and flamboyant clothing, often combining stereotypical gender roles so that they appeared as a feminine male or masculine female.
  Many say that glam rock originated from late 60's psychedelic rock and fashions. I personally agree, as late 60's psychedelia and mid-70's glam and glitter rock fashions are quite similar. Both are nearly outrageous, defying the previously set limits and breaking the barriers. So this is why I have provided for you a simple list of tips and ideas on how to make yourself up in more mid-70's glam.

1.) Metallic Fabrics
  When one thinks glitter, they simply can't pass the thought of shiny metallic colors as well. Metallics were popularized by the likes of both Marc Bolan and David Bowie, and such shiny fashions are still seen today.

2.) Striped/Designed Trousers

  Pants with fun designs across them may seem rather bold for today's fashion. And yes, they are. But if you look around nowadays, a lot of people are wearing leggings with crazy patterns across them. Of course in the 1970's these patterns weren't quite as bold, so if you're going to buy leggings or trousers with patterns on them, make sure they're not as bright or neon and stick to simple stripes or checkered patterns.

3.) Outrageous Shoes

  Outrageous fashion designs have been around since fashion itself started. But the real beginnings of outrageous shoes began in the 1970's with platforms. Although platform shoes are quite uncommon these days, many variations exist. For example, heels with incredibly high wedges are common in the fashion world today as well as Doc Martens, a popular brand of combat boots. Shoes with glitter are also common in the glam rock world.
