Keep Calm & Play Animal Crossing

  I've had a very troubling past few weeks, I hope all of you have been doing well. I've been drinking way more than I should be, and in doing so, I've been incredibly cranky during my sober moments. I've also been abusing amphetamines and opiates, and it took watching Walk the Line (the Johnny Cash movie) to get me to realize how drug abuse can really hurt my friends. Although I'm not going quite cold turkey, I'm going to try to limit my drug and alcohol use for the time being in order to keep happier and healthier.
  Last night, I found out some troubling news about my boyfriend, which caused me to end things with him. I feel incredibly hurt and betrayed, and I was very tempted to drink my feelings away. I stayed sober for the evening, which was probably the best decision I could have made. I feel maybe I'll only drink for fun now, not to numb my problems. I've also very recently quit smoking cigarettes, which made my life hell. It does not make you look cool. It does not take the stress away. It only adds further stress into your life by becoming addicted to a literal cancer stick. I'm so glad I've had the courage to knock such bad habits, and I encourage all of you facing the same troubles I am to kick them, too.
  On a lighter note, I've been kind of obsessed with the Animal Crossing soundtrack. I found some great 8Tracks playlists (1, 2) featuring Animal Crossing songs, so I highly recommend you check them out. You can check out my latest Tumblr project though, the CalmingCorner, where I've posted both of them. It's a new idea of mine to create a "safe place" type Tumblr where people going through panic attacks, crying sessions, or general fits of anxiety or anger can go to calm down. There aren't many posts right now, but I hope to post more when I get home from school in order to help those in need.

  That was a lot of pictures, I know, but they were pretty, so shh. I've been going toward this light pink/blue pale vibe lately, and a lot of these pictures totally follow it. I love it, don't hate! (haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate...)  I don't really know how to close this post, so just... enjoy your weekend, lovelies!

In Like a Lion..

   We all know that in like a lion, out like a lamb cliché for the month of March. And with the upcoming snow storms soon to hit New England, I'm pretty sure to say that the weather is very lion-esque. Even though the weather's pretty disgusting (whoever says they like snow is a liar), I feel pretty calm, almost like the lamb side of this month. I've been shopping online like crazy the past few weeks, trying to find clothes that will remind me of summer. As ridiculous as it sounds, the aspects of pale and pastel have been on my mind, too. It seems that I've slowly started to calm down for once.

 

  I know that picture montage didn't really have a point, I just thought I'd share the lovely images that have inspired me this past month. I've also been listening to a lot of Gotye, Klaatu, and Wes Anderson soundtracks. I can't wait to see The Grand Budapest Hotel, Anderson's latest movie, which comes out this month! I guess I'm just in a Wes Anderson mood, really. His films like Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums have unforgettable soundtracks, and Moonrise Kingdom, my first Wes Anderson film, left a strong impact on me. I guess I'm just excited to know more Wes is coming!

  Hi everyone, this is a poor excuse for a blog post, but I thought I'd just show you a few things that I've enjoyed recently. The first is a few images, so enjoy these:

1. "Hope" by Klaatu // when the song kicks in (and believe me, you will know when it kicks in) you're rushed with this overwhelmingly intense rush of power and emotion that to this day blows my mind how the hell they captured it into a song
2. "My Girl" by the Temptations // how can anyone not like this song? Every time I listen to it, I feel so happy inside and nostalgia for a time period I never lived in washes over me
3. "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals // although this song is a little bit newer than music I typically listen to, I'm a really big fan of this song. Plus it reminds me of my childhood, hearing it on the radio
4. "Everybody's Talkin'" by Harry Nilsson // this song is soft and pretty, yet deep and soulful at the same time, making it an instant favorite in my mind
5. "Village Green" by the Kinks // a lesser known Kinks tune, this personal favorite of mine sounds so different from a lot of other typical songs from the time period that it's hard not to love it, honestly. It sounds like a medieval party to me, which is something I think everyone can groove to
6. "Midnight Confessions" by the Grass Roots // this song was one of my favorites in the eighth grade, and I forgot about it up until now. It's so big yet at the same time so small, as it confuses my mind and makes me feel all warm and bubbly inside. Check it out

✿ A Day of May✿

   Although I can't sing "Sweet Little Sixteen" just yet, today is my birthday- and I'm fifteen. Fifteen seems so much older than fourteen. Although, that previous sentence does sound quite cliché... but yes, it does. Fourteen and thirteen I happen to bunch together in my mind as the "scary" phase, a phase in which most teenage girls (and sometimes boys) partake in where they rebel against their parents and think they're incredibly cool, when in reality they are nothing but a bunch of annoying little kids. I am finally out of that age group, for which I am thankful, and I intend to embrace this deeply.
  My birthday is on May 1st, also known as May Day. May Day isn't celebrated widely these days like it was around a hundred years ago or so, so I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't heard of it. The day is basically celebratory towards anything flower-covered or nature-related, although it mainly focuses on flowers. In the early 20th century people would make May Day baskets full of flowers to leave on each other's doorsteps, kind of like reverse trick-or-treating. It seemed like a lovely holiday, complete with flower-smothered goodness. Loving everything having to do with flowers, this seemed like the perfect holiday for me, and ironically, it was on my birthday.
  There isn't much of a point to this post rather than that I wanted to spread May Day/Birthday cheer with everyone. Look forward to my Saturday/Sunday post- it's sure to be a good one. Other than that, have a lovely May Day everyone. :)

  Now that it's officially spring here in Massachusetts, (you can tell because its actually sunny, and its a whopping 70°F here today!) the sun is shining, the trees are starting to grow their leaves again, and flowers are finally sprouting up again.

I've started working at Dairy Queen again, and although I'll admit I was rather nervous to start working again, working in the spring is much more exciting than working in the fall and winter. Not only am I making more in tips (in three hours in the fall/winter I'd typically make around $8 in tips, now I make anywhere between $15-20 in three hours), but there are also more customers, keeping me busy and making time go by much quicker.
I'm glad I'm not the "new girl" anymore too. I'm still their youngest employee, but they're training new people to work there, and therefore, I don't feel 100% stupid for messing up, like I did before. Plus the toppings are super yummy, so I basically eat my weight in everything from cookie dough to cheesecake bites daily. That's the best part about working; the free food. I can make pretty much all the ice cream I want, I love it. Even though I'm not an ice cream fan, my family is, so I bring them home whatever they want. Alright already, enough about work. Just enjoy the pretty pictures and have a fabulous Tuesday!
