In Like a Lion..

We all know that in like a lion, out like a lamb cliché for the month of March. And with the upcoming snow storms soon to hit New England, I'm pretty sure to say that the weather is very lion-esque. Even though the weather's pretty disgusting (whoever says they like snow is a liar), I feel pretty calm, almost like the lamb side of this month. I've been shopping online like crazy the past few weeks, trying to find clothes that will remind me of summer. As ridiculous as it sounds, the aspects of pale and pastel have been on my mind, too. It seems that I've slowly started to calm down for once.

I know that picture montage didn't really have a point, I just thought I'd share the lovely images that have inspired me this past month. I've also been listening to a lot of Gotye, Klaatu, and Wes Anderson soundtracks. I can't wait to see The Grand Budapest Hotel, Anderson's latest movie, which comes out this month! I guess I'm just in a Wes Anderson mood, really. His films like Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums have unforgettable soundtracks, and Moonrise Kingdom, my first Wes Anderson film, left a strong impact on me. I guess I'm just excited to know more Wes is coming!

Have a lovely month of March xx

I'm back, lovelies!

Let me just say that I am SO sorry I haven't posted! My school computer got water spilled on it, so I didn't have it for a month or so :( And my home computer glitches out bigtime whenever you use the screen, so it's useless. I just got my school laptop back, but all my pictures were gone, so I don't have a lot anymore for posts. So I'll post what I can.
I hope everyone had a lovely New Year, and now since it's been exactly a month since the year kicked off, I feel like I'm having a good one. I've dyed my hair a lot, and it was blue up until today, and now it's blonde (with some blue patches of course, because I suck at dying my hair). It almost kind of looks like a Sky Ferreira blonde. Speaking of Sky, I absolutely adore her. I'll include some songs I really love by her in the playlist I'll put in at the bottom. She is a lovely girl, and she is absolutely gorgeous. I remember hearing her first big song "Obsession" when I was in the sixth grade, and while her musical style has obviously changed since then, I've always had a soft spot for her.
I've been watching a lot of movies, too, lately- in the past month or so I've watched The Full Monty, Monty Python's the Meaning of Life, Full Metal Jacket (I've seen it before, just not full length), Mars Attacks, and many others for the first time. And I've also re-watched several favorites, like The Shining and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.  I just really love movies, and hopefully I'll have a career relating to them eventually? Maybe? No? Okay.
I'd love to hear what you all have been up to in to in the comments below, so be sure to leave a message. I'll keep this post short and sweet, and leave you with some pictures. Have a lovely day!

When I got my laptop back, the school wiped it clean memory-wise so I took the opportunity to completely transform it into a kawaii pixel masterpiece.

My hair as of several hours ago. Trying to push my bangs aside like Sky and failing miserably.

Most of these songs are from The Full Monty soundtrack, and I really recommend checking that out, too, as well as the movie itself.

  1. "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate
  2. "She's a Lady" by Tom Jones
  3. "Make Me Smile" by Steve Harley & Cockey Rebel
  4. "Lost in My Bedroom" by Sky Ferreira
  5. "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed
  6. "Lolita" by Lana Del Ray
  7. "Red Lips" by Sky Ferreira
  8. "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer
Have a nice day, lovelies!

Candy Colored Clouds

Hi everyone, this is a poor excuse for a blog post, but I thought I'd just show you a few things that I've enjoyed recently. The first is a few images, so enjoy these:

I've also had some songs on my mind that you all might enjoy:

  1. "Hope" by Klaatu // when the song kicks in (and believe me, you will know when it kicks in) you're rushed with this overwhelmingly intense rush of power and emotion that to this day blows my mind how the hell they captured it into a song
  2. "My Girl" by the Temptations // how can anyone not like this song? Every time I listen to it, I feel so happy inside and nostalgia for a time period I never lived in washes over me
  3. "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals // although this song is a little bit newer than music I typically listen to, I'm a really big fan of this song. Plus it reminds me of my childhood, hearing it on the radio
  4. "Everybody's Talkin'" by Harry Nilsson // this song is soft and pretty, yet deep and soulful at the same time, making it an instant favorite in my mind
  5. "Village Green" by the Kinks // a lesser known Kinks tune, this personal favorite of mine sounds so different from a lot of other typical songs from the time period that it's hard not to love it, honestly. It sounds like a medieval party to me, which is something I think everyone can groove to
  6. "Midnight Confessions" by the Grass Roots // this song was one of my favorites in the eighth grade, and I forgot about it up until now. It's so big yet at the same time so small, as it confuses my mind and makes me feel all warm and bubbly inside. Check it out

AND FINALLY check out some groovy links that've kept me occupied for the past week or so.

✿ A Day of May✿

Although I can't sing "Sweet Little Sixteen" just yet, today is my birthday- and I'm fifteen. Fifteen seems so much older than fourteen. Although, that previous sentence does sound quite cliché... but yes, it does. Fourteen and thirteen I happen to bunch together in my mind as the "scary" phase, a phase in which most teenage girls (and sometimes boys) partake in where they rebel against their parents and think they're incredibly cool, when in reality they are nothing but a bunch of annoying little kids. I am finally out of that age group, for which I am thankful, and I intend to embrace this deeply.
My birthday is on May 1st, also known as May Day. May Day isn't celebrated widely these days like it was around a hundred years ago or so, so I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't heard of it. The day is basically celebratory towards anything flower-covered or nature-related, although it mainly focuses on flowers. In the early 20th century people would make May Day baskets full of flowers to leave on each other's doorsteps, kind of like reverse trick-or-treating. It seemed like a lovely holiday, complete with flower-smothered goodness. Loving everything having to do with flowers, this seemed like the perfect holiday for me, and ironically, it was on my birthday.
There isn't much of a point to this post rather than that I wanted to spread May Day/Birthday cheer with everyone. Look forward to my Saturday/Sunday post- it's sure to be a good one. Other than that, have a lovely May Day everyone. :)

Since I can't make any new 8tracks playlists (they're blocked on this computer), here is the one I used from my Marianne Faithfull post. Enjoy!

Faithfull Flowers

Well I hope everyone had a happy Easter! (And if you don't celebrate it, had a happy long weekend :) I myself am not a religious person, but my grandparents are, so we all pig-piled to their house for the holiday. I was planning on making this elaborate Easter post but the truth is, I was so tired when I came home that all I could do was mindlessly reblog pictures on Tumblr.
I've also been having this sudden urge to look and dress like the always lovely Marianne Faithfull. As a kid, I always found her voice in the 60's heavenly and her style stunning. Even in times when her life was troubling (drug addiction, suicide attempts, breakup with Mick Jagger) she always looked so upbeat and flawless in pictures. So, for April, my style inspiration shall be miss Marianne Faithfull.
Now this post doesn't really have a point, so just enjoy some Spring-inspired pictures of pastels, flowers, and everything beautiful, including lovely Marianne.
NOTE: Although it's on my playlist at the bottom, PLEASE listen to "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face" by Marianne Faithfull. It is BEAUTIFUL. Tear-jerking stuff, people. That great.

The lovely Marianne Faithfull, c. 1966.

From Retrospace.
If you've never heard Marianne Faithfull's tragic story, I strongly suggest you take a listen to my simplified version:
Marianne started off as a simple folk musician in the early sixties, around 1964. She went to a Rolling Stones gig back in their early days (where one may consider them slightly more innocent than in the later sixties) and she was discovered by them. She got married and had a kid, but soon left her husband for Mick Jagger, whom she started dating in 1966. She met Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones' at the time girlfriend Anita Pallenberg, whom she befriended. She was introduced to marijuana, which eventually led her, with some help from Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, to harder drugs like cocaine and heroin. She was found by police in a drug raid on Jagger and Richards wearing nothing but a fur rug. She later admitted that this incident had ruined her personal life.  "It destroyed me. To be a male drug addict and to act like that is always enhancing and glamorising. A woman in that situation becomes a slut and a bad mother."
She miscarried a daughter from Jagger who she had named Corrina in 1968, another event which gradually tore at her personal heartstrings. When her relationship ended with Jagger in 1970, she was devastated. This was the same year she also lost custody to her son from the previous marriage. This led to her severe depression and eventual suicide attempt. She eventually lived on the streets for two years, addicted to heroin and suffering from anorexia. She was no longer famous, and rarely made public appearances.
In 1979, Marianne had the ultimate comeback. She released an album titled "Broken English," which to this day is considered her best album. From years of drug addiction her voice was no longer as light and airy as it was in the early sixties. She now had a deep, raucous voice from drinking and smoking. Her most famous song from this album is "Why D'ya Do It?", a nasty comeback at everyone who had treated her like shit over the years.
I just love Marianne Faithfull, no matter how many personal demons she had in her past. I love her voice as well; I think its like Nico's, you either love it or hate it. Either way, she's truly both a beauty and vocal icon.
