I Have to Admit, It's Getting Better

Hi folks! I must admit that my consistency on this blog is varying quite a bit. One week I'm here twice, and then I'm gone for a month. I must apologize for my lack of order when it comes to blogging. That being said, for the past week or so, I've been feeling fantastic. As some of you dedicated readers might know, I've been diagnosed with depression and have just been absolutely miserable in everything I do. I got a new therapist on Tuesday (my first in two whole years!) and it seemed that talking to her definitely helped. However, there seems to be something else on my mind that I feel as sparked the uprise in my pleasant behavior much more than any therapist ever could. That's right- Sam's found herself a boy.

I know that me talking about him here is probably creepy (he might be incredibly scared if he ever read this, oops), but oh well. It's my personal blog, I feel like I can blog.. well, personally here. And boys seem to be a very personal topic. I will spare him the indecency of sharing his name, but this boy has really made me happy. He even surprised me at work the other night by showing up out of the blue when we closed like Jake in Sixteen Candles.
It was so cheesy that I couldn't help but be absolutely swept off of my feet. We're going to dinner and the movies tomorrow, and I am beyond ecstatic. I'm already mentally figuring out what I'm going to wear, isn't that pathetic? For the first time in a very long time (maybe even ever) I feel myself constantly smiling, humming pleasant songs, and acting like how I feel a human being should act. I can't stop being happy, and I'm so, well, happy that I'm this happy. So thank you, nameless boy, for making my life a little less cynical.

Here's a happy little playlist to make you all as happy as I am (unfortunately 8Tracks is blocked so you all will have to look up the songs yourselves). I know these songs have been on a lot of my other playlists, but I love them, so I think they're worth a second listen.

A Day in the Life

Hello lovelies! It's about 50°F here, something that it hasn't been in months. I'm awfully sick of this groggy New England weather. As I'm typing this post, the sun is shining through my window, and I can't help humming "Here Comes the Sun." That song has never seemed to apply better in any other situation. The fact that sunbeams are gleaming through the glass beside me just fills me with longing for summer. Everything seems better in the summer, doesn't it? To go along with this wonderful mood the warmth of the sun has brought me, I decided I'd show you guys an update of my room, as it's just been cleaned and I kind of want to show it off, heh. So here is Sam's room, as of March 2014!

Look how clean that carpet is! There's my Abbey Road blanket draped over my chair, my life-sized Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (out of frame), my Woodstock, Who, and Pink Floyd posters, and my old acoustic in the corner.

I still have these faux-polaroids hanging and I love them! From L to R: Pattie Boyd, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, a record player, and Friar Park. On my desk are Miss O'Dell by Chris O'Dell and Wonderful Tonight by Pattie Boyd, two of my favorite books which I highly recommend!

Here's my still slightly messy desk. My record player is in that red and tan box so it doesn't collect dust. There's my Dexter calendar in the background, along with all of my concert tickets. And yes, that is Pattie Boyd and the Rolling Stones peeking out of the bottom left corner!

My lava lamp! I purchased this from Newbury Comics a while back, but only light it when I'm in the happiest of moods. Again, there's my Dexter calendar, along with a bunch of various Beatle memorabilia.

Took a break from my room pictures to show off my Hi-C Orange Lavaburst! Read this post if you want to know why I love this junk so badly.

My guitar corner! The one in the corner, named Bruce is my Batman one which I've been dying to sell on Craigslist, although no one will buy it. :( The one on the left is named Blackie after Eric Clapton's, and the acoustic is Harrison.

A bunch of junk! The lollipop earrings I just purchased the other day from SugarPopPartyShop, and I'm in love with them! The bat ones I bought a while ago. I made the Beatles earrings, Clockwork Orange, and David Bowie pins, and the rest with the exception of the one right below the Beatles earrings are from Newbury Comics. Tessa made the exception. The British flag necklace was purchased in London.

My bookshelf! I'll start with the top and make my way down. Those Beatles shot glasses were a gift from a friend a few Christmases ago. Some books on the second shelf include Who I Am by Pete Townshend, The Green Mile by Stephen King, and a collection of Edgar Allen Poe stories. Also there's a few flower crowns I made, a hand-painted Who plate I made, and the Beatles' anthology set.

The bass guitar I painted by hand to look like George Harrison's Rocky and bag I purchased from Tessa!

Unfortunately 8Tracks, the website I make playlists on, is blocked once again. Will this school make up their mind already? So I'll have to make a manual playlist this time, I guess. Cue cliché title:

Here Comes the Sun

A playlist about the happiness springtime brings

Hope you enjoyed my finally clean room! I'd love to hear from you all, so comments and suggestions would be lovely! Until next time, I'm Sam xx

♀ A Day for Women ♀

Today is National Women's Day. It is a day to celebrate women in all of their glory, as well as all the amazing thing women do. Specifically in the past 100 years or so, women have received more and more recognition, and I'm thankful I live in a time where they do. Women have received the right to vote, started wearing pants, and going out and creating jobs for themselves in a time where previously only men had jobs. We've really come so far.
That being said, there are still a few things women have not been able to accomplish. One of these things, unfortunately, is equality. Although women have been offered many of the same options men have been offered, there are still sexist pigs out there who treat women like doormats. They believe a "woman's place is in the kitchen," and that women are no good for more than sex.
Although I've made a post similar to this before (here), I decided it's time to celebrate women in music, fashion, and film, three things I like most.

Pattie Boyd

As those of you who know me probably know, I love Pattie Boyd dearly. She was a stunning model and overall beautiful figure. Strangely, I didn't like her until I read her 2007 autobiography, Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me. She was and still is so beautiful, and I really wish models nowadays used her as more of an inspiration. To me, she is simply stunning. And her birthday is March 17th, so wish her a happy birthday as well!

Miss Pamela

Pamela Miller, Miss Pamela, Pamela Des Barres- Whatever you call her, she's beautiful. Miss Pamela started off as a groupie in the late 1960's and later went on to be in the GTO's, a band created by the infamous Frank Zappa. Althought The GTO's didn't achieve commercial success, Pamela went on to date multiple musicians and artists and prove to the world that she was a fierce go-getter. Like Pattie, she's written several autobiographies and is currently in the process of opening her own clothing line, Groupie Couture.

Marianne Faithfull

Marianne Faithfull is most known for dating Mick Jagger in the mid-late 1960's. After she and Mick split, she was so damaged from drugs and smoking that her beautiful singing voice was permanently altered. But that didn't stop Marianne from making a comeback. She released "Why D'Ya Do It?" nearly a decade later, a nasty and rough take on the men who had used her during her life with Mick. She's even an actress, appearing in several modern films, the most recent to my knowledge 2006's "Marie Antoinette."

Cherie Currie
When I mention The Runaways, most people think of Joan Jett. As much as I love Joan, I felt Cherie, the band's lead singer, was often overlooked. In the midst of 1977 punk rock, Cherie Currie rocked her corset and fishnets and strutted across the stage like she owned the place. I have yet to get a haircut similar to hers. If you're interested in hearing her story, like most powerful rock and roll women, she released an autobiography called "Neon Angel." There is also the 2010 film "The Runaways" starring Kristin Stewart and Dakota Fanning, although I'd much rather prefer you watch a video of her and the band performing live in Japan in order to get the full effect.

Cynthia Powell
The second Beatle-wife on this list, Cynthia is known for marrying John Lennon. Although he left her for Yoko Ono in 1968, she remained strong and tried to continue her career. She is currently in her fourth marriage, and has even released her own autobiography, simply titled "John," about both her and her life with John Lennon. She remains ever graceful, sometimes connecting with her old Beatle-wife buddies, mainly Pattie Boyd and John Lennon's former girlfriend May Pang.

The most badass little girl, ever.

  1. "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways
  2. "Why D'ya Do It?" by Marianne Faithfull
  3. "Those Were the Days" (Cover) by Cynthia Powell
  4. "Do Me In Once and I'll be Sad, Do Me In Twice and I'll Know Better (Circular Circulation)" by The GTO's
  5. "As Tears Go By" by Marianne Faithfull
  6. "I'm in Love With the Ooo-Ooo Man" by The GTO's
  7. "I Love Playing With Fire" by The Runaways
  8. "Power to the People" by John Lennon

Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want

Today I just happen to be in the most calm mood I've been in for a while. I've noticed that these sudden flashes of good moods come during warm days, and since it is still winter here in dreadful Massachusetts, I have been in a horrible mood the entire time. I feel best during autumn and spring, when it isn't too warm, but the sun is shining bright and the air smells fresh. Today, even though the remainders of this winter's latest storm still lie in big, white piles on the ground, they have begun to melt, leaving ugly patches of dead yellow grass beneath them. But, nonetheless, this means that they are melting, and that the air is becoming warmer. My birthday is the first of May, which means spring as well as then are right around the corner.
I cannot wait until both school and the sun are out, which for some reason, always happens to lift my mood. Another thing that has been lifting my mood lately are cheesy 80's tracks that seem to belong in a John Hughes movie. (My favorites of his happen to be National Lampoon's Vacation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, and Home Alone. But, there are a few other movies I love as well with calming soundtracks. One of my favorites of all time would have to be Harold and Maude, which I reviewed here. It is one of the few films not entirely filled with cheesy lines and cliché romances. Although the story of Harold and Maude's love is odd, the film is brilliant, nonetheless, and I highly recommend it.
Another favorite is Carrie, originally a Stephen King novel, which I reviewed here. Carrie is a social outcast who has the secret power of telekinesis, which means she can make things happen by just using brain power. She gets asked to the prom by a popular boy named Tommy, (who strangely enough, I always thought looked like Roger Daltrey in the movie "Tommy") and from there, hell breaks loose. Although I recommend the novel more than the film, the film provided some wonderful visuals to help accompany the already brilliant imagery Stephen King created.
Enough about the 1970's, however! I made this post to focus o the 1980's and 90's, two of my personal least favorite decades. Although I don't like a majority of their music and fashion, there were some high points, like I said, The Smiths. I also like The Cure, Queen, The Traveling Wilburys, and The Dream Academy.

SamanthaWarhol's Top 80's & 90's Films:
  1. "Heathers" (1990)
